Museum of Yverdon and Region

Housed in the historic Castle of Yverdon-les-Bains, the Museum of Yverdon and Region is one of the oldest in the canton of Vaud. It retraces 8,000 years of history and also acts as an information centre for palafitic sites of ancient houses built on stilts, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Museum of Yverdon and Region is one of the oldest in the canton of Vaud, dating back to the second half of the 18th century. The permanent exhibition, of which the castle is an integral part, presents the history of Yverdon-les-Bains and its region over almost 8,000 years.

Throughout the rooms, major pieces of regional archaeology retrace the Neolithic, Celtic, Gallo-Roman and Burgundian eras. The two particularly well-preserved Gallo-Roman boats, the Bernese paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries and the celestial globe dating from the 18th century are the most exceptional items in the collection. Visitors can also discover Egyptian antiquities such as the Nes-Shou mummy and its burial trousseau.

The museum showcases this rich heritage through temporary exhibitions, publications and educational events.
