This historical trail of about 19 km joins the localities of Jougne, Ballaigues and Vallorbe. The walk lasts about five hours and takes in one of the Jura’s rare cross-sectional transit routes. Two valleys seam this route, drained on the French side by the Jougnena river and the Orbe river on the Swiss side.
Jougne, Ballaigues and Vallorbe are intimately linked by nature, past and present. Walking along the signposted Jougnena trail is a reminder of the deep ties that bind these 3 towns together. The presence of iron, the motive power of white water and the importance of forests in these areas led to the early development of craft and metallurgical activities. Along the historical walk, 9 themed areas retrace almost 2000 years of history in the Jougnena valley, from Roman times to the present day.
