This historical trail of about 19 km joins the localities of Jougne, Ballaigues and Vallorbe. The walk lasts about five hours and takes in one of the Jura’s rare cross-sectional transit routes. Two valleys seam this route, drained on the French side by the Jougnena river and the Orbe river on the Swiss side.
Jougne, Ballaigues and Vallorbe are clearly linked by nature in both, the past and the present. Walking on the marked trails next to the Jougnena river reminds us the profound links that unite these three places. The presence of iron, the power of white water and the forests as an important source of materials provided early development of artisan and metallurgical activities. During the historical hike through nine thematic areas, walkers trace almost 2000 years of history of the Jougena valley, from the Roman period to modern times.
An explanatory guide is available in the tourist offices of Orbe and Vallorbe.
