Orbe - Concert
Carmen de Bizet, in oratorio, with 7 professional soloists, 70 choristers and a children's choir.
In Seville, Spain, 1820. Arrested following a quarrel, Carmen, a gypsy with a fiery temperament, seduces brigadier Don José, engaged to Micaëla. She promises him her love if he helps her escape. Don José releases Carmen, and is imprisoned in turn. He finds her two months later among smugglers. For her, Don José becomes a deserter.
Chained to his devouring passion for Carmen, he pursues her with his jealousy. The beauty pushes him back unceremoniously. Only Micaëla manages to bring Don José back to a bit of reason. He goes to his dying mother's bedside.
The final encounter between Don José and Carmen takes place in front of the bullring in Seville. While she is waiting for her new lover, the bullfighter Don Camillo, José tries, in a final confrontation, to convince Carmen to come back to him. Desperate, he begs, he implores and ends up threatening, but she, brave, refuses bluntly and forcefully. Mad with love and rage, he stabs her, before confessing his crime in front of the crowd.
Love is not always a bohemian child!
