The Swiss Fashion Museum was opened in 1982. It organises its permanent and temporary exhibitions at the castle in Yverdon-les-Bains.

The showcase of its collection is the archives of fashion designer Robert Piguet (Yverdon-les-Bains 1898-Lausanne 1953), who founded a haute-couture firm in Paris (1933-1951). He trained with Paul Poiret and at Redfern and opened his firm where he employed young designers such as Christian Dior, Marc Bohan and Hubert de Givenchy. At his peak, he employed a staff of over 400 people in the French capital.

The museum’s collection comprises some 5,000 garments and accessories from the 18th century to today.

The Swiss Fashion Museum draws on these resources to present its permanent and temporary exhibitions with various themes: film costumes, the aspects of contemporary Swiss haute-couture, creations by Gianni Versace, haute-couture prototypes and casting techniques, as well as high-tech fabrics.
