"Pop Art Mon Amour"

The exhibition "Pop Art Mon Amour" (Pop Art My Love) offers a journey halfway between Japan and the West.

What do Tadanori Yokoo – one of the greatest Japanese contemporary artists – and the mangas of science fiction have in common? Apparently nothing.

And yet, aside from the fact that the names of Yokoo and mangaka are generally little known in our part of the world, the silkscreen posters of the former derive from a mode of creation that is notably identical to those cartoons that are so popular nowadays: all of them are in fact inspired by motifs that are initially non-Japanese (Pop Art, science fiction), cause them to strike a chord with the Japanese aesthetic (emakimono, ukiyo-e) and create hybrid works which in turn influence the work of European and American artists or cartoonists.

Halfway between Japan and the West, you are invited to discover an exceptional exhibition in which the works of Tadanori Yokoo and Osamu Tezuka dialogue with the multimedia installation of Joanie Lemercier and the heritage of the Maison d’Ailleurs.
