Dr. Wyss’s Workshop
Stepping into Dr Wyss’s workshop will propel visitors into the past, offering a glimpse of how a majority of Sainte-Croix’s inhabitants made their living and the hard working conditions of the time.
Jürg Wyss, a retired doctor, has been patiently collecting various machines used in the production of musical boxes between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Dr Wyss, aware of the importance of preserving the industrial heritage of the region, has accumulated many documents, tools and machines related to the production of these musical boxes over the years. He has also re-created an entire workshop which is an exact reproduction of the 19th century workshops. Dr Wyss’s workship is fully functioning and can be seen in action upon demand.
The workshop is located across from the Museum of Arts of Science, the Museum of Musical Boxes and the “Centre Industriel de la Mécanique d’Art” (Industrial Centre for Mechanical Art) making it easy to combine visits to several of these attractions.
