Heritage Pathway

Over time, the forces of nature have carved out and shaped the Valley of the Nozon in such a way that there is often an intriguingly medieval aspect to its wild, natural beauty.

After departing from Croy-Romainmôtier, walkers along the Heritage Path will discover many different biotypes, some extremely strange. The vegetation varies according to the seasons, with thick carpets of snowflake plants or wild garlic along the river banks. Above the cliffs, tufts of box-tree and a few spindly oaks cling to the rocks, giving a mediterranean feel to the landscape.

The area has a rich historical heritage. There are traces of prehistoric man in the stones with strange, enigmatic engravings to be found in the forest wilderness. Other traces of the past include ovens used in reducing iron ore, lime kilns, and quarries for cutting building stone or for extracting the magnificent basins of the traditional village fountains of the Vaud region. This pathway offers at one and the same time a nature walk in a beautifully preserved natural environment and a chance to explore the historical heritage of the area.
