The Grand Tour of Switzerland
The Grand Tour is the opportunity to discover the essence of Switzerland – its finest sites and its cultural excellence. The programme of this circuit of some 1600 km: four linguistic regions, five Alpine passes, eleven UNESCO world heritage sites, two biospheres and twenty-two lakes.
The stretch between the region of Yverdon-les-Bains and Lake Geneva is rich in discoveries: the route offers the calm of the forest and green meadows as far as Sainte-Croix then embarks upon the col des Etroits (Etroits pass). The tour continues with the discovery of the charming spa town of Yverdon-les-Bains and its exceptional built and natural heritage, before heading for Orbe, with its mosaics and vineyards of the Côtes de l’Orbe.
Then on to Romainmôtier, the medieval village and Clunisian site with its impressive Abbatiale (abbey church). The itinerary ends at Vallorbe, where one can experience the spectacular Grottes (caves) dug by the erosion of the river Orbe or observe bears, wolves and bison at the Juraparc.
