Le Puisoir: sports and relaxation
Le Puisoir is a large open space bordered by the river Orbe. It is the preferred venue of walkers, footballers and fishermen, and only five minutes from the town centre or by car from Grand Pont.
This natural “basin” offers free parking facilities, football grounds, space for jogging, scoring and picnicking, with a dining hall (festival hall) and a refreshment stall open to the public during matches and training sessions.
This is the place where football matches and other sports events, as well as festivals and popular celebrations such as Abbaye and the Swiss National Day on August 1 are held.
Le Puisoir is the starting point of “Chemin des Présidents”, a path which runs alongside the river, then passes underneath the Grand Pont and ends in the area where there used to be mills. On the return trip, hikers can use a footbridge, which takes them to the swimming pool and the campsite one kilometre away and, if they feel up to it, to the Roman mosaics further away. The alternative walk through the woods takes hikers first to the deer park, then to the electricity factory Le Chalet, with its impressive dam, before penetrating into the heart of the Orbe Gorges.
