Winter Nordic Walking

Winter Nordic Walking is nordic walking that is practised in winter conditions along marked walking trails.

The equipment is comprised of poles specially designed for nordic walking in addition to trekking or nordic walking shoes, snowshoes or excursion skis. The poles have either a rubber tip or a removable shaped rubber ‘paw’ and are equipped with disks to prevent them from penetrating too deeply into the snow. When snow is fresh or not yet packed, it is preferable to use snowshoes

Anne-Marie Sardi is the designated instructor for the Jura (Yverdon-les-Bains Region) in all the basic techniques of nordic walking. She is certified by the Swiss Nordic Fitness Organisation (SNO) and recognized by Qualitop. Ms Sardi is trained in snowshoe nordic walking and in the three different types of nordic walking and will accompany groups on request.

Here are some of the expeditions available along the marked trails:

Vaulion, above Romainmôtier: Several easy or mid-level trails start at the centre of the village. Depending on their physical fitness and their interest in the sport, participants may choose trails that take from 45 min. to 1 ½ hours or more. This part of the Jura has several scenic viewpoints along the way.

Les Rasses is a well-known mountain resort which has a magnificent view over the Balcony of the Jura. It is especially suited to snowshoe nordic walking, especially along the trails that have been marked for snowshoe trekking. The flat pathway that leads to Les Cluds is perfect for beginners (about 1 to 1 ¼ hours there and back).

Other trails that lead to the Chasseron (1 601m), require hikers to be in good physical condition; snowshoes are strongly recommended. Those who reach the summit may choose to have a meal and even to sleep at the Hôtel du Chasseron, with its authentic decor and magical panoramic view.
