Education & Training
Throughout its history, Yverdon-les-Bains has played a role of central importance in the field of education.
The famous educator H. Pestalozzi lived and taught in the Castle of Yverdon during the 18th century, and created several educational institutions. Later, during the 19th century, many private schools were founded in the area between Yverdon and Grandson. Some of the beautiful buildings that housed these schools are still standing and may be seen along the Avenue des Bains and the lakeshore.
Today, Yverdon is best known for its School of Business and Engineering. The school is the result of a merger between two other schools : the former Engineering School and School of Management of the Canton of Vaud. The School of Business and Engineering Vaud is usually referred to in Switzerland by the initials of its French title, HEIG-VD (Haute Ecole d'Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud).
The School of Business and Engineering Vaud is part of the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (French initials HES-SO). The University is a vast network of professional schools and institutions that offer programmes leading to the Bachelor Degree. It is is made up of 27 partner schools, each specialized in different areas. Today, about 14 000 students are enrolled in its many programmes. The School of Business and Engineering Vaud groups courses in engineering and economics.
The School also offers an important network of professional exchange and collaboration. Its rich resources are a key attraction in drawing business enterprises to settle in the region.
