Yverdon-les-Bains
With its 27 000 habitants, Yverdon-les-Bains plays several key roles : it is the second largest town in the Canton on Vaud, the centre of the greater urban area that extends beyond the town, and last but not least it is at the heart of a vast region : the northern part of the Canton de Vaud.
From the geographical point of view, the town has many advantages. It is surrounded by the scenic alpine landscape of the Jura and close to the Lake of Neuchâtel. Its cultural, commercial and economic importance may be seen from the fact that 40% of employment in the region is concentrated in Yverdon-les-Bains.
Yverdon-les-Bains is growing rapidly and extending its activities into many new fields. It is an important centre for health and social services and is becoming increasingly important in education: about 5 000 students having finished their compulsory schooling are now enrolled in higher education institutions for university-level studies or in professional centres for training and apprenticeships.
According to a survey of the population, the inhabitants of Yverdon-les-Bains find their city to be warm, friendly and welcoming. The features that they particularly appreciate include its geographic situation; its central position and easy accessibility; the fact that it is a medium-sized town; the beauty of its environment (the lake, the mountains of the Jura massif, the natural landscapes as well as the historical beauty of the town centre); and finally, the quality of its social life.
