Collection of vintage cars

Overlooking Lake Neuchâtel, Grandson Castle is one of the treasures of the Yverdon-les-Bains region. Visitors can enjoy several different exhibitions here, the most original undoubtedly being the magnificent collection of vintage cars exhibited in a period setting, including Greta Garbo’s Rolls.

It was Georges Filipinetti (1907-1973) who was responsible for the collection of vintage cars at Grandson Castle. This Geneva-born industrialist bought the castle in 1960 and converted it into a museum.

In 1961, he created the Scuderia Filipinetti, one of the most prestigious private motor racing teams in the world and ran the best cars driven by the greatest drivers. In 1983, the collection was purchased by a foundation which acquired new cars.

The most exceptional exhibits include Greta Garbo’s Rolls-Royce Phantom I, Winston Churchill’s Austin 1938 or the Citroën built for the Yellow Cruise from Beirut to Peking in 1931-1932.

A retro atmosphere with music and characters in period costume, loaned by the Swiss Museum of Fashion in Yverdon-les-Bains, creates a period feel for these dream motors. Cocktails and receptions can be organised in the castle’s rooms and private apartments.
