Grandson Castle

This imposing medieval castle located at the foot of the Jura and dominating Lake Neuchâtel in the Yverdon-les-Bains region recounts the Burgundy wars against Charles the Bold. Exhibitions of a collection of old-timers, armours and crossbows enhance the visit of this imposing edifice.

Château de Grandson

Grandson Castle is the second largest castle in Switzerland.

Built between the 11th and 13th century by the Grandson family, it played a major role in the Burgundy wars and the Battle of Grandson (1476), when the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, was defeated by the confederates and left prestigious spoils of war behind, such as countless pieces of artillery.

This castle, which used to be a residence of lords and later of the Bernese bailiffs, offers countless museum collections. In its historical rooms of the 13th to 16th centuries, visitors can admire magnificent Renaissance stalls, countless collections of weapons and armours and scale models of historic battles. The vast building also houses an automobile collection from the 20th century, namely Greta Garbo's Phantom I Rolls Royce and Winston Churchill's "Cambridge Saloon" Austin. The private halls and the splendid inner courtyard can be reserved for seminaries and banquets.
