Autumn Fair and Cowbell Market
In Romainmôtier, the “Foire d’automne et bourse aux Sonnailles” (‘Autumn Fair and Cowbell Market’) is the quintessential rendezvous for both cowbell collectors and adepts of the region’s local produce and culinary specialties.
Each year, over 80 exhibitors proudly display their products in this authentic and eclectic fair organized in Chapbaillard, on the edge of the forest.
The event is full of local colour and charm, and showcases the modern and dynamic facet of agriculture and of regional traditions. Visitors will be able to admire and purchase unique objects and artefacts, explore the local produce stands, and discover the area’s renowned breads and cheeses.
Meals featuring local culinary specialties are served under a large tent, in a warm and rustic ambiance. Other forms of entertainment are of course provided, such as the traditional village ceremony that accompanies the descent of the herds from the high mountain pastures where they have grazed throughout the summer to the lowlands where they spend the winter season.
Visitors are sure to appreciate the fair’s friendly and relaxed atmosphere, cradled by the sounds of distant bells ringing to announce the arrival of autumn.
