On August 1, 1993, the Swiss National Day, the Swiss Farmers Union initiated a day of farm brunches. Their aim was to bring together producers and consumers. Since that day, over 500 Swiss farms, of which about twenty in the Lake Geneva Region, have opened their doors to visitors.

Available between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the meal proposes terroir products: cheese, bread, meat, sausages, freshly picked fruit, milk of the day, muesli, and culinary specialties.

The meal can be enjoyed outside or in the farm itself. Consumers discover the origin and the quality of the products offered, they observe the work and the commitment needed to produce quality terroir products. Manufacturing processes, hygiene and certification measures are often described on this occasion.

Farm brunches have become a weekend must for many city dwellers.
