Collection of old-timers
The collection of old-timers at Grandson Castle was put together by Geroges Filipinetti, the owner of a race car stable.
Collection de voitures anciennes, Grandson The oldtimer collection at Grandson Castle was initiated by Georges Filipinetti (1907-1973). This industrialist from Geneva bought the castle in 1960 and had it rearranged as a museum.
In 1961, he created Scuderia Filipinetti, one of the most prestigious race car stables in the world, with the best cars and the best drivers: Jo Siffert, Jim Clark, Ronnie Peterson and Nino Vaccarella. The chief mechanic was Franco Sbarro living in Grandson, a future builder and designer of extraordinary cars.
In 1983, the collection was bought by a foundation which then acquired more cars. The showcases are Greta Garbo’s Phantom I Rolls-Roce, Winston Churchill’s Austin 1938 limousine or the Citroën built for the yellow crusade from Beirut to Bejing in 1931-1932.
A retro-style atmosphere, with music and figures dressed in period costumes lent by the Swiss Fashion Museum in Yverdon-les-Bains, confers an atmosphere of yesteryear to these dream motors. Cocktails and receptions can be organised in the castle’s halls and private apartments.
