Baulmes Church
This charming little church, which dominates Baulmes village, forms part of the Cluny sites distributed throughout Europe and was mentioned as early as 1228 under the name of “Saint Pierre”.
In 1294, the abbot of Cluny connected the house of Saint-Michel de Baulmes with the convent in Payerne forever, but in the course of the 15th century, despite this direct link, the state of the buildings deteriorated massively. When the Bernese took over the region in 1536, they destroyed the priory which, in all probability, was almost in ruins.
The church underwent major transformations in 1821 and in 1870. Only the church tower with its Gothic windows and an equilateral arch remain as traces of the first church. The exact location of the priory is unknown.
