Hôtel de Ville Gallery
Ever since 1980, five exhibitions have been organized each year in the magnificent arched rooms of Yverdon’s Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall).
These exhibitions group the work of several different artists around a central theme. The number of participants so far is impressive: over 1,500 artists have previously shown their work in this space (paintings, sculptures, engravings and ceramics).
Yverdon’s Hôtel de Ville was designed by two late 18th century artists, Abraham Burnand and Béat de Hennezel. According to Abraham Burnand, their aim was to “give important buildings the true beauty and grandeur which should distinguish public edifices.” He added, “A public building destined to last through the centuries should conform to all rules quite precisely, exemplifying the noble simplicity that is appreciated by true connoisseurs throughout the centuries.”
