Yverdon-les-Bains received Wakker 2009 Award
In 2009, the second largest town in the Canton of Vaud was honoured with the Wakker Award. The Swiss Heritage Society awarded this prize to Yverdon-les-Bains in recognition of its urban planning developments, its model co-operation with neighbouring villages and the authorities’ manifest will to re-enhance the urban space.
The town located at the southwestern end of Lake Neuchâtel was honoured with the Wakker Award because it successfully combined new buildings with the historic authenticity of its town centre. The redevelopment of the lakeshore, Place de la Gare and Place de l’Ancienne Poste enables the population to rediscover and enjoy this multi-faceted town ideally located on the lakeside. The audaciously contemporary new public buildings have also earned the town recognition by the professional bodies using them.
The Swiss Heritage Society's Wakker Award recognises these achievements but also encourages awardees to become even more aware of the existing potential and to highlight the efforts already made. To discover the sites that earned Yverdon-les-Bains this prestigious award, guided group tours are organised on request at the Tourist Office in Yverdon-les-Bains.
